Dear Homeowners,
The United Way of Baldwin County has established a flood relief fund and is working diligently with donors to secure funds designated specifically for victims of the April flood. As of today, they have not received any financial donations for the flood. They have several promising donors, but until the funds are secured, they cannot open the application process. There is a form on the United Way of Baldwin County's website that those affected can complete in the meantime. They will send out information on the assistance application as it becomes available to those who have completed the form. The website is https://unitedway-bc.org/april-2025-flood-relief

Dear Lake Forest Property Owners,
We hope this message finds you safe and recovering well after the recent flooding affecting our community. Events like these can be overwhelming and bring about an urgent need for repairs and restoration. Unfortunately, they also tend to attract unscrupulous individuals looking to exploit vulnerable situations.
We urge all residents to exercise caution when hiring contractors, vendors, or service providers for cleanup, repairs, or renovations. Here are some key tips to help protect yourself and your property:
Tips to Protect Yourself from Contractor Scams
-
Check Licenses and Insurance:
Always ask for proof of a valid business license, general liability insurance, and workers' compensation coverage. You can verify licenses with the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board. -
Beware of Door-to-Door Solicitations:
Be cautious of individuals who show up uninvited, offer services, and pressure you to act immediately. Reputable contractors rarely solicit door-to-door. -
Get Written Estimates and Contracts:
Obtain at least two to three written estimates before hiring anyone. Ensure contracts include a detailed scope of work, materials to be used, timelines, and payment terms. -
Never Pay in Full Up Front:
Be cautious of anyone requesting full payment before work begins. A reasonable deposit may be required, but reputable contractors typically structure payments based on complete milestones. -
Ask for References:
Request and follow up on references from past clients. Reliable contractors will have a track record of satisfied customers. -
Use Trusted Sources:
Consider using vendors or contractors referred by neighbors, your insurance provider, or the Association. You can also contact the LFPOA office if you’d like to help to locate resources or to verify contractor legitimacy.
Steps to Be Better Prepared in the Future
-
Maintain Updated Insurance:
Ensure your homeowner’s insurance policy is current and provides adequate coverage for flood and storm damage. -
Create a Home Inventory:
Document your property and possessions with photos and receipts, which will help in filing accurate insurance claims. -
Have a Preparedness Plan:
Keep a list of trusted contractors and emergency contacts. You may also want to develop a simple family emergency plan. -
Stay Informed:
Follow the LFPOA website and official social media channels for disaster updates, recovery resources, and community alerts.
Lake Forest is a strong, resilient community. By staying informed and looking out for one another, we can protect our homes and ensure recovery efforts are handled safely and responsibly.
If you have any questions or need assistance verifying a contractor, please do not hesitate to contact the Association office.
Stay safe and thank you for being a valued part of our Lake Forest community.

City of Daphne Resolution to Declare State of Emergency

Dear Homeowners,
The LFPOA Offices has cleaning supplies ready to pick up for any members that were impacted by the floods.
April 10, 2025

Dear Homeowners,
The city of Daphne has requested that any Lake Forest home owner that sustained damage during the recent floods, MUST contact City Hall by Wednesday April 16, 2025, to report any damages. The number to City Hall is 251-620-1000.

Letter to the Mayor and CIty Council from our President

Mr. Mayor LeJeune and Esteemed Members of the City Council,
I am speaking on behalf of the Lake Forest community, one of Daphne’s largest and most vibrant neighborhoods, to urgently request that the City of Daphne formally declare a State of Emergency in response to the devastating flooding that has recently impacted our area.
This catastrophic event has caused extensive damage to more than 40 homes and has directly or indirectly affected countless other residents. Families have been displaced, personal belongings have been destroyed, and property damage is still being assessed as we grapple with the aftermath. The scope of this disaster demands immediate attention, coordinated action, and access to emergency resources that can only be unlocked through an official emergency declaration.
Declaring a State of Emergency would:
-
Unlock Access to State and Federal Aid: A declaration can pave the way for assistance from FEMA, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, and other relief organizations to provide critical resources for cleanup, housing, and rebuilding.
-
Provide Emergency Funding: It would enable the city to redirect funds and resources to aid affected neighborhoods quickly without the delays of standard bureaucratic processes.
-
Mobilize Emergency Services: It allows for the swift deployment of additional personnel, equipment, and support services to assist with cleanup, repairs, and prevention of further damage.
-
Coordinate Relief Efforts: An official emergency status improves the organization and communication between agencies, ensuring faster response times and more effective support for residents in need.
-
Begin the Long-Term Recovery Process: It sends a strong signal to state and federal partners that Daphne is taking leadership in addressing this crisis and is ready to work collaboratively on long-term mitigation and infrastructure improvements.
What do we need now? One immediate and tangible way the City can help is by allowing the Solid Waste team to enter Lake Forest multiple times—rather than waiting until the first of the month—to remove the overwhelming amount of construction and yard debris. This would be a significant first step in helping our neighbors, and business owners begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.
Lake Forest is not just a neighborhood; it is a cornerstone of Daphne’s identity. These are our neighbors, our local business owners, our friends, and our families. They need your help. Declaring a State of Emergency is not just a governmental procedure, it is a declaration of compassion, responsibility, and solidarity.
We urge you to act now. Our community depends on your leadership in this moment of crisis. Please stand with the residents of Lake Forest and take immediate action to declare a State of Emergency for our neighborhood.
Thank you for your attention, your service, and your commitment to the well-being of all Daphne residents.
Thank You
Dr. Byrian Ramsey, LFPOA President
