Lake Forest Marina Boat Channel Dredging Update "City of Daphne Will Begin Project April 2020"

4/1/2020

Picture
Friends, Neighbors, and Local Associates,
This information is written to provide our community with positive news and important updates for our Waterfront Parcel, Marina Boat Channel Access and Boat Ramp which is located adjacent Mobile Bay at the end of Yacht Club Drive.

Boat Channel Project Dredging Information as follows:
  1. Dredging timeframe is expected to be 90 days.
  2. Channel Length to be dredged 3,475 LF
  3. Project Start date is expected to be first week of April 2020.
  4. Project End date is expected to be last week of June 2020 or earlier.
  5. Boat Ramp and Adjacent Parking Area will be “CLOSED” for public use during this project due to contractor liability and for public health and safety concerns.
  6. Excavated Materials from the boat channel will be relocated and disbursed into an area outside the boat channel area and will not be removed.
  7. Project boat channel depth of 5.5 FT to 6.5 FT is targeted and expected when benchmarked with the “Mean Low Water Measurement” once dredging operations cease.
  8. FYI, work was permitted by US Army Corps with an Individual Permit that took over 2 years to attain, and other permits were issued by Alabama State Lands and Alabama Department of Environmental Management, were also attained by the City.
  9. Permitted work area for the project will follow the EXISTING channel and markers due to Archeological and other Environmental impacts.
  10. FYI, the City Project Engineering Firm is Goodwyn Mills Cawood or GMC, (was Hutchinson, Moore and Rauch, LLC), represented by Robert A. Cummings, P.E.

Project updates will be made available. The POA is currently exploring and researching operational, repair, and other maintenance options for “our POA” boat storage areas, marina, and piers, that when completed and combined with renovations of our Yacht Club will pair nicely with the City’s investments to the parcel and boat channel. Cost benefit Analysis has been requested from Management and will be considered for future planning.

Specific Project Questions can be answered by the Environmental Program Manager - Ashley Campbell at the City and by contacting District 3 - Councilman Joel Coleman; or District 5 - Councilman Ron Scott; or District 6 - Councilman Robin LeJeune. Much appreciation goes to all our City Leaders and Officials that have done the hard work to restore the boat channel and who have helped make this lease agreement become truly “Mutually Beneficial” for Lake Forest and for Daphne.
